Time stretched on as her heartbeat slowed . She floated under the current, utterly confused. Her life had already flashed before her eyes and she found she was at peace with it. All her poor decisions left her with no regrets, just lessons learned. Rarely had she made the same one twice and each time she had taken something different from the experience. All her good memories had wrapped around her, giving her one last warm embrace before disappearing from memory. Now she merely existed. For how much longer, she wasn’t sure.
This couldn’t be right, could it? She imagined death would feel cold instead of tepid. The water swooshed around her. She had never noticed the music of the ocean before. With everything gone from her mind she was now open to hearing it. The kelp flipped together, the shells rolling over one another as the current tossed them together, the swish of a fin as a school of fish passed. It was beautiful and she hadn’t experienced it until now. She smiled and closed her eyes, listening to her death song. Her heart beat again and time stretched on.
